Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will make a new twist on ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith ”for New Regency and Amazon Prime Video. The series, based on the 2005 hit New Regency film, will be released in 2022.
Glover and Waller-Bridge play the lead and executive producers of the series,
made the announcement via social media and posted a video on Instagram Stories detailing the project. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, also posted the news of the new program on her Twitter account on Friday.

The new version of ‘Mr and Mrs. Smith ‘is not Glover or Waller-Bridge’s first project in the studio. Waller-Bridge creates and plays in the hit series “Fleabag,” which collected six Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2019, while Glover’s musical film “Guava Island” is also an Amazon Original.
The series has been put together by Francesca Sloane, who will serve as showrunner, and has her own overall deal at Amazon Studios. New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Jenny Robins, Michael Schaefer and Wells Street Films will deliver executive production.

The 2005 Doug Liman film, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, was a huge hit and grossed nearly $ 500 million worldwide. Alfred Hitchcock also directed a screwball wedding comedy titled ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith ”in 1941, starring Robert Montgomery and Carole Lombard.
In 2018, Glover and Waller-Bridge played ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ as Lando Calrissian and droid L3-37, displaying striking natural chemistry and comic relief for the high-flying space adventure. And since then, the Emmy-winning creators of “Atlanta” and “Fleabag” have publicly supported each other’s careers. In 2019, Glover shared his admiration while honoring Waller-Bridge with British Artist of the Year at the British Academy Britannia Awards.
