Don Lemon is not surprised by Harry and Meghan interview, says ‘of course’ the monarchy is racist

CNN’s Don Lemon tweeted on Monday about Oprah Winfrey’s explosive interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and said he was not surprised by the racism the couple faced from members of the royal family and the British media.

“I do not think Oprah, I do not think anyone who has watched it, especially not any colored person, is surprised that there is racism” in the British royal family, Lemon said. “This is what the monarchy is based on – heredity, hierarchy, a caste system, bloodlines.”

Lemon argued that “the whole institution was built on a racist structure” and that it was such a systemically biased system, and it was no wonder that the royal family was concerned about the potentially dark skin of Archie, the child of Meghan and Harry.

The couple told Winfrey that this, along with the “big” British press, contributed to their decision to move to America, adding that Harry’s family had so far been unwilling to apologize for any role they played. played to manage the couple overseas.

“There should not be an ‘oh my God, the British family is racist’ – of course they are racist,” Lemon said sadly. ‘This is what the whole monarchy is based on – the racism, the family that is supposed to be in it only from birth. And so far it has only been white royals on the British throne.

The CNN host added that he was also not surprised by Harry’s statement that he was not aware of the prejudices in his family, until he was forced to confront them with his mixed wife.

“The part was not surprising, because as we always say, that’s what privilege is always about,” Lemon said, adding, “If you do not have to deal with it, it does not exist for you.”

Lemon brought his own marriage to Tim Malone, a “white man from the east side of Long Island”, and pointed out that he had only been married by a “black man from the South”, came to a settlement of racism .

“Of course I’m not surprised that Harry was introduced to racism by his wife and he felt it in a personal way,” Lemon said. “This is how it happens … Harry now has a black child and a black woman, so it’s personal.”
