Domino’s Pizza is working with Nuro to launch the R-2 robot to deliver your pizza in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Houstonians may see something different in the way their pizza is delivered this week.

Domino’s Pizza has announced the launch of its autonomous pizza delivery. In partnership with Nuro, the pizza chain said some of its customers can now choose to have their pizza delivered by Nuro’s R-2 robot.

The Nuro R-2 is an autonomous vehicle on the road. This means that there will not be a delivery manager who can greet you with your order at the door. Instead, the robot will send the order to the address and customers will receive a pin to pick up their order when it arrives.

“Selected customers will receive text alerts, which will update them on R2’s location and get a unique PIN to pick up their order. Customers can also locate the vehicle via GPS on their order confirmation page. Once R2 arrives, customers will “are asked to enter their PIN on the crash screen’s touch screen. R2’s doors will then gently open upwards and reveal the customer’s hot Dominos order,” Domino’s explained.

Customers ordering from the Woodland Heights location at 3209 Houston Avenue can choose to have their pizza delivered by Nuro’s R-2 robot.

“We are excited to continue to innovate the delivery experience for Domino’s customers by testing autonomous delivery at Nuro in Houston,” said Dennis Maloney, Domino’s senior vice president and chief innovation officer. “There is still so much for our brand to learn about the autonomous delivery space. This program will enable us to better understand how customers respond to deliveries, how they deal with the robot and how it affects store operations. The growing demand for large-tasting pizza creates the need for more deliveries, and we look forward to seeing how autonomous delivery can work with Domino’s existing delivery experts to better support customers ‘needs.’
