Dominican defends New York passengers with disabilities in their MTA aircraft

Quemuel Arroyo, a Dominican national in Bonao, had many February initiations as the first director of accessibility of all the agencies of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA) in New York, United States.

At the age of 31 its target is the defender of passengers with disabilities in Gran Manzana, and Arroyo operates inside the top ranks of the city transit system.

The live-in staff has its own shortcomings in enforcing people with physical disabilities or reduced mobility that need to be transferred to the city.

The MTA’s director of accessibility, he talked to Listín Diario periodicists about all his planes and objectives in his new cargo.

LD: All work and sacrifice in life, What is your personal, professional and labor-intensive process to help you become the first MTA Accessibility Director?

QA: It has many variants of contradictions and personal difficulties, now it is on the road due to an accident that you have been riding a mountain bike “mountain biking” 13 years ago, but like all Hispanics they go ahead and the life is not for them. I always say that the limits we have are the same as ours. When you want to be able to.

En cuanto a lo académico, estudie Diseño Urbano en New York University (NYU), verbonde aan’n maestría en Administración Pública en NYU.

He worked for six years for the Governor of the United States in the New York City Department of Transportation.

Last year at a startup that started with a friend, it was a new company in the transport of micromovilids carrying electric patios and cargoes for the same in Paris, Atlanta and California but I want the governing body to increase the volume of life and increase experience for newcomers and visitors.

In MTA we work with over 1 million new Yorkers who need this accessibility and it is important to be able to access the New York State transportation system.

LD: What do you want to log in with this new directive?

QA: One of my methods is to access all the public transport services needed by the mayor and so, improve the system and all visitors can visit the public transport system without importing any physical condition , there is a mother or father with a carriage, a person in a row of chairs, a child who can not walk or climb stairs has access to a lift when needed.

LD: When did you enter your promotion, How did you feel?

QA: I feel great because this is a giant opportunity, it is first and foremost that the MTA, design a person for this rank.

The MTA is super large, has no impact alone in New York, also in Connecticut, the system has over 69,000 employees, manages billions of dollars annually and for me there is a total honor to be in the directive month deciding the priorities of the organization. This means that the decisions that we make here diary, influence in the day to day and the life experience of the new Yorkers.

I work for newcomers who do not have the opportunity to work from home, my job is for the minority who have to train and have some difficulties, I am here to improve the system and be there for those people who do not voice. I’m here for them.

LD: Are there any projects that would like to host ten-year-olds applying for a place in the MTA?

QA: The short space will be followed by the work that the MTA has with the installations of new elevators, advancing in projects in order to realize more fast and more efficient.

In addition to the elevators hey many incapable than his invisible, many people who do not have the ability to pass a ticket to enter the subway or pay their passes. I think that the technological advances that these people bring can have a better experience in the transport system.

How can you effectively provide information to a person who has or does not have visual difficulties that can not be the information or a slip? for these people you are thinking and calculating technological advances that I can facilitate to get the information they need.

LD: How do you visualize the mobility of a large space for people with disabilities?

QA: From 4 to 5 years, I would like to know that a passenger who sells the John F. Kennedy airport has total access to his phone, which is where the elevator is most likely to buy his ticket without waiting. That user can investigate independently How to use public transportation to get to Times Square, Brooklyn or the Bronx and where to go, where to go and when to go.

LD: Have you thought about leaving your acquaintances with other foreign animals?

QA: I work for New York and my priority is to make sure that this city is the best city in the world, so that you can try it on the newcomers and all the visitors, you can enjoy everything that the city has to burn.

I still love new ideas and new methods about the accessibility of public transport in all parts.

LD: What message are sent to all Hispanics residing in the United States and the Dominican Republic?

A message for all Hispanics all over the United States as in the Dominican Republic is that for me it is an honor to be Dominican, I am sorry for our culture and our riots for everything in this new post are an honor to represent our culture and serve to increase the life of New York transport users.

I hope you are aware of what I mean by this, because I need it to make sure I do the work that all users need.
