Dolly Parton received her first recording of the COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna and, where applicable, made sure to bring a little extra sparkle to the event.
The country icon posted a short video on her social media accounts on Tuesday in which Dr. Naji Abumrad, a professor of surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a longtime friend, administered the jab.
Just before Parton masked in preparation for the procedure, however, she sang a few lines of “Jolene,” and processed the text to her 1973 classic to fit the moment.
“Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine,” she crowns. “I beg you, please do not hesitate.”
The video contains a snide message to anti-waxxers and those who may be on the fence about making their vaccine appointments.
“The sooner we feel better, the sooner we will feel normal again,” she said. ‘I just want to say to all you cowards out there: Do not be such a chicken coop! Go out there and get a chance. ‘
Parton wrote the headline: “Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine”, referring to the $ 1 million donation she made to Vanderbilt University last year to fund research on the coronavirus vaccine.
But despite the donation, the nine-time Grammy winner said last month that she planned to wait “until more people get it.”
“If I get it, I’ll probably do it on camera so people will know, and I’ll tell them the truth if I have symptoms and all that,” she told The Associated Press. “Hopefully it will encourage people. I’m not going to jump the line just because I could. ‘
