Dolly Parton on Thursday asked lawmakers to remove a bill proposing a statue of herself be installed on the Tennessee State Capitol site.
Tennessee State Rep. Jeremy Faison responded to her request and told TMZ that her wishes should be respected.
The country music legend (75) posted a message on Twitter in which she asked her home country to stop the bill, although she was ‘honored and humiliated’ by the gesture.
“I would like to thank the Tennessee Legislature for their consideration of a bill to erect a statue of me on the Capitol site. I am honored and humbled by their intention, but I have asked the leaders of the state legislature to bill of any all consideration, ”reads her statement.

“Given all that’s going on in the world, I think it’s not appropriate at the moment to put me on a pedestal. However, I hope it’s somewhere in the way a few years from now or maybe if I’m gone if you still feel I deserve it, then I’m sure I’ll be proud of our great State capital as a grateful Tennessee, ‘Parton concluded.
In June, an online request was made indicating that a statue of Parton would replace those dedicated to the Confederate officers.
“Tennessee is littered with statues commemorating Confederate officers,” the petition reads. “History should not be forgotten, but we do not have to glorify those who do not deserve our praise. Let us rather honor a true Tennessee hero, Dolly Parton.”
