Dodgers offense subsides, Padres final final concludes

The Dodgers shocked the world and lost a game on Sunday afternoon when they fell to the Padres 5-2 in the final.

The Dodgers hit first place, thanks to a two-pointer from Chris Taylor. That would be the only Dodgers runs this afternoon. They finished the game with just three hits, two in the second innings and then a single in the eighth from Zach McKinstry.

Trevor Bauer made his fourth start of the season and hit very well. He allowed only one run in six overs, a solo own run for Jake Cronenworth. The other two hits he allowed are thanks to Manny Machado, who is currently hitting about .995 against Bauer in his career.

Bauer hit seven and took just one step, and was essentially in no trouble at any point during the game. The Padres could only put a runner against him in the standings once.

Bauer’s day was completed after 98 places and Dave Roberts chose to go with Brusdar Graterol in the seventh innings. It was activated earlier in the day, and it was Graterol’s first major league game of the year, as he did not appear in any practice games in the spring. Machado and Eric Hosmer welcomed him back with successive hits, which quickly leveled the game after five spots. With two on and two out, Roberts is after Scott Alexander. He only needed two stands because Alexander got Wil Myers to end the innings.

The bottom of the eighth innings kicked off with an error from Corey Seager, and that seems to make the difference. Seager takes Edwin Rios a few feet off the bag, and the lead is first. Dennis Santana replaces Alexander, and he is not one of the turn.

Hosmer struck again as he put the Padres on the board. Tommy Pham then doubled to give the Padres a 5-2 lead.
