Dodger Stadium to stop COVID-19 tests move to vaccination site

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – The Dodger Stadium, the country’s largest COVID-19 test site, will stop testing for the virus and move to a massive vaccination site, the city announced on Sunday.

The test operations in the stadium end Monday, the city said. The site will be converted to vaccination by the end of the week and is expected to reach 12,000 vaccinations per day once fully operational.

“From early on in this pandemic, Dodger Stadium was the home base for our testing infrastructure, an important part of our effort to track the spread of COVID-19, to try to prevent breakthroughs and save lives,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. . “Vaccines are the surest way to defeat this virus and give a rate of recovery, so the city, county and our entire team put our best resources on the field to get Angelenos vaccinated as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible.”

City officials acknowledged that the closure of the site would reduce the overall testing capacity in the region, but would triple the spread of the vaccine. They noted that the city still operates eight permanent and six mobile sites, and that testing will be extended to some of the existing sites.

The city opened Dodger Stadium for COVID-19 testing in May 2020 and since then, more than 1 million tests have been administered.
