The Russian doctor responsible for treating Alexei Navalny after being poisoned by nerve agent Novichok died suddenly, according to 55 reports.
Life.ru reports Sergey Maximishin on a heart attack after being taken to hospital on Wednesday night where he was working due to an increase in his blood pressure.
“The doctor actually died of a heart attack because he had a very stressful job and he lost people who were close to him,” spokeswoman Galina Nazarova said.
“It’s just the human heart,” she said.
Maksimshin, who was the head of intensive care, died in cardiology ER from his hospital in Omsk.
“He has given his local hospital 28 years, saved thousands of lives and left behind many talented students who will continue his legacy,” said Alexander Murakhovsky, Minister of Health in the Omsk region.
“Sergey Maximishin has literally dragged even the most critical, hopeless patients with his hands from ‘the other side’.”
About 1,400 people were arrested, mostly in Moscow and St. Petersburg, during violent protests over the arrest of Navalny, 44, on January 17, a fierce Kremlin critic detained on his return to Russia from Germany, where continued his treatment for poisoning.
Navalny was ordered to serve 3 1/2 years in prison after authorities ruled his trip to Germany violated his parole.
