One of the two victims killed in Texas over the weekend in the crash of a Tesla car that would presumably work without a driver was William Varner, a doctor, his employer said Tuesday.

Police said the Tesla Model S burst into a tree near Houston on Saturday night and burst into flames, killing one occupant found in the front passenger seat.

Witnesses told police that the accident occurred shortly after the victims left a home, and said they would test automated driving skills. read more

“Dr. Varner was a great person who became very personal …,” Hermann told The Woodlands Medical Center in a statement. “He will be greatly missed by him.”

Varner, a 58-year-old anesthetist, studied at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1988.

“We were saddened by the death of one of our doctors over the weekend. “Dr Varner has cared for others all his life, and now we are committed to looking after his colleagues and family, to help them cope with this sudden and unexpected loss,” US Anesthesia Partners said in a statement. statement told Reuters.

The other victim, who was born in 1951, was not identified Tuesday.

Texas police told Reuters they would search for evidence to secure vehicle data after Tesla CEO Eles Musk tweeted that the data showed the vehicle was not working on Autopilot.
