International travel could soon take off again, without quarantine.
A new app from the International Air Travel Association (IATA) that allows airline and government officials to report and share the health information of travelers, such as COVID-19 results and vaccination statuses, will be available in March and available to passengers free of charge via both. IOS and Android platforms, according to the website.

The IATA Travel Pass works by informing passengers about the health requirements of their destinations to access, and provides a kind of health plan with information on requirements, test centers and even the ability to schedule appointments. A ‘Digital Passport’ feature is included for receiving and storing digital vaccinations or test information, which can be shared with airlines or other authorities to facilitate travel. ‘
“With this app, IATA also aims to give governments the confidence to reopen borders without imposing quarantines on incoming travelers,” the IATA said on its website.

Singapore Airlines will be among the first to test the app, followed by routes with Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Copay Airlines and 15 others, according to IATA. IATA says it has also received approval from Panama and is in talks with other governments.

“Testing is the first key to making international travel possible without quarantine measures,” IATA CEO Alexandre de Juniac said earlier in November about the idea. “The second key is the global information infrastructure needed to securely manage, share, and verify test data that matches travel identities in line with border control requirements. We’ll bring it to market in the coming months to meet the needs of to provide the various travel bubbles and public health corridors that start. ”
