Twice this week, YouTube TV was in the news: once for the launch of its new Entertainment Plus package featuring HBO Max, Showtime and Stars, and again for the announcement of an upcoming 4K package featuring offline downloads and unlimited simultaneous home streaming . Cable subscriptions continue to decline. In fact, the closure of 2020 seems to have accelerated the process even further. You would assume we were all sitting at home, we would have turned to live TV as a source of things to watch, but last year streaming was more popular than ever. Only a handful of our readers claim that they have not subscribed to any video streaming services.
However, streaming live TV is a different animal. Netflix can cost $ 9-18 a month, and Disney + only $ 7, but YouTube TV start at $ 65 per month, much higher than the original price of $ 35. This is a step that has driven many of our readers away from the service. And there are numerous alternatives, such as Hulu with Live TV, Fubo TV, Sling, and even the anachronistic cable services themselves. Comcast has its Xfinity Stream, which lets you watch TV on the internet, your phone or from a Chromecast, for free with any TV plan. AT&T and T-Mobile also both have their own live TV streaming services, although AT & T’s streaming situation is complicated.
There are also ways to get free limited TV access, such as Pluto TV, but the choice can be ‘eh’. And that’s not even a mention of all the free trials you can get for other services.
