DJI Air 2S with enhanced camera sensor leaks new images

DJI’s unannounced Air 2S drone leaked in a series of images TechnikNews and WinFuturesee Roland Quandt. The images come after the drone was listed in an FCC filing last month, suggesting a launch may not be far off. The DJI Air 2S is expected to be an upgraded version of last year’s Mavic Air 2, with an improved camera and compatibility with new DJI accessories such as its V2 glasses and Motion Controller.

Let’s start with the camera sensor. The new versions, as well as a preview preview shared earlier this week by reliable leak OsitaLV, feature a drone with a 1-inch 20-megapixel sensor. Although it has a lower resolution than the 48-megapixel 1/2-inch sensor found in the Mavic Air 2, the larger physical size should have major performance benefits, especially in low light. The sensor has similar specifications to what we saw in the Mavic 2 Pro, which offers excellent image quality.

As reports of DroneDJ accurate, the Air 2S should also work with DJI’s new V2 glasses and motion controller, which were released last month along with its FPV rumble. Compatibility with the glasses allows the drone to be driven from a first-person perspective, in addition to regular flights with the app. The Air 2S is not expected to be able to extract the kind of acrobatic flight from the DJI FPV, but the goggles should provide a more immersive flying experience for those who want it.

Other minor changes include the loss of the name “Mavic” on its name, and an upgrade to version 4 of DJI’s ActiveTrack standard, TechnikNews notes, which should make it better to detect topics during filming. There is also support for DJI’s latest OcuSync 3.0 standard. Although the battery has the same capacity at 3,500mAh, the Air 2S with 30 grams looks slightly heavier than the Mavic Air 2.
