LOS ANGELES (AP) – Prince Harry says the process of separating the royal life was very difficult for him and his wife, Meghan.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry recalls the memory of his late mother, Princess Diana, who had to find her own path after she and Prince Charles divorced.
“I’m just very relieved and glad I sat here with my wife and talked to me, because I can not imagine what it must have been like for her all these years ago alone through this process,” says Harry at, “because it was incredibly difficult for the two of us.”
“But we have each other at least,” Harry said in a clip from the interview special, which will air on March 7 on CBS and the next day in Britain. Diana was shown in a photo with toddler Harry when he made the remarks. His mother died in 1997 from injuries sustained during a car accident.
Harry and Meghan sit across from Winfrey and next to each other, holding hands during the interview conducted in a lush garden setting. The couple lives in Montecito, California, where they are neighbors of Winfrey. Meghan, who recently announced she was pregnant with the couple’s second child, wore a black dress with an empire-style embroidery. Harry is wearing a light gray suit and a white dress shirt, minus a tie.
As Meghan Markle, the actor starred in the TV legal drama ‘Suits’. She married Queen Elizabeth II’s grandson in Windsor Castle in May 2018, and their son, Archie, was born a year later.
The short promotional track was one of two that aired on CBS’s 60 Minutes magazine on Sunday. Winfrey’s questions and remarks were predominant in the other clip, including her statement that, “You said some shocking things here,” without showing what she was referring to. Meghan was not heard from in the tracks.
Harry and Meghan resigned from full-time royal life in March 2020, unhappy about the media scrutiny and the rigor of their roles. They call what they describe as the intrusions and racist attitude of the British media towards the Duchess, an African-American.
It was agreed that the situation would be reviewed after a year. On Friday, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the couple would not be performing royal duties again and Harry would relinquish his honorary military titles – a decision that would make the couple’s separation from the royal family formal and final.
The couple, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have confirmed that they will not return as working members of the royal family. ‘
A spokesman for the couple slammed back after suggestions that Meghan and Harry were not devoted to duty.
“As is evident from their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the United Kingdom and around the world and have offered their continued support to the organizations they have represented regardless of their official role, “the spokesman said in a statement.
