Orange County’s vaccination center at Disneyland closed Thursday after a severe storm that immobilized Texas and much of the South led to delays in vaccine delivery.
According to a news release from provincial officials, the Disneyland website began rejecting people with appointments after a Modner vaccine was not sent.
The center will remain closed at least until Monday, when additional supplies are expected.
The opening of a new vaccination center at the Anaheim Conference Center, scheduled for Wednesday, could be delayed if supplies are not refurbished in time, the news release said.
Two other vaccination sites in Orange County, at Soka University and Santa Ana College, mainly administer the Pfizer vaccine.
According to the country, the Soka yard will offer second doses, while Santa Ana will close on Saturday. The reopening date of the Santa Ana website depends on when more Pfizer vaccines arrive.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the second dose of the vaccine should be given about three weeks to one month after initial admission. But the shots could be given up to six weeks apart, if necessary, the CDC said.
People with canceled appointments will receive information on how they can reschedule, according to the province.
Millions of people in Texas and elsewhere in the South were left without power and water amid icy temperatures this week, and more than three dozen people died when a blizzard devastated the region.
The severe weather also affected the delivery of vaccines to San Diego, where officials reported Wednesday the temporary closure of several vaccination sites due to shortages.
