Orange County officials announced Monday that the happiest place on earth will be a super site for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The resort will be the first of five local POD or delivery points in the region, which according to the country’s press release has the capacity to vaccinate thousands of residents a day. It will be up and running later this week.
“Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has stepped up to host the province’s first Super POD website. It has undertaken a monumental task in our distribution process,” Andrew Do said in a statement. said. “We appreciate the support of the Orange County Fire Authority, our cities and our residents as we continue to implement COVID-19 vaccinations throughout the province.”
Vaccinations are currently available to residents and people who work in Orange County and meet the criteria for Phase 1a of the California vaccination. This population includes law enforcement, first response in high-risk communities and people aged 75 or older.
“It is important to vaccinate as many volunteers as possible for COVID-19, and we need the space to do that,” said Donald P. Wagner. “I thank Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim for their intensive efforts to provide OC residents with protection against the virus.”
Those who are eligible to be vaccinated will be contacted by their employer to schedule an appointment. The COVID-19 infection rate has skyrocketed in California over the past few months, with a total of more than two million cases. Disneyland has remained closed since March due to the pandemic, although Downtown Disney has been able to operate at a limited capacity in accordance with state guidelines.
