On January 1, 2022, the western world will put a new calendar year on the page. But for visitors to Walt Disney World, the date will also mean a major change: the official strike of Disney’s Magical Express. Could the date point be the end of the so-called “Disney bubble” for good?
Since the coronavirus pandemic hit last year, the term “Disney bubble” has been associated with the NBA bubble located on Disney property. But before that, the ‘Disney bubble’ referred to the fully immersive experience that some visitors chose to pay for on a trip to Walt Disney World. In short, for those staying at Disney property, the park offered transportation from Disney to the airport so that guests could theoretically participate in Disney experiences from the moment they picked up their bags at the airport in Orlando.
The transport, called Disney’s Magical Express, still exists and will still be in use until December 31, 2021. According to Magazine Magazine, Disney’s Magical Express will go offline on January 1, 2022.
“As consumers’ needs and preferences change, we will no longer offer Disney’s Magical Express service from 2022,” said a spokesman for Walt Disney World Resort. “At the same time, we’re introducing new ways for guests to enjoy their visits, including early access to a theme park for Disney Resort hotel guests.”
After January 1, 2022, the “Disney bubble” will be officially pierced. No concrete reason has been given for closing this service, but it seems strange to Disney to leave money on the table by closing it – you would think that the company wants to offer full immersion (and yes, take so much money of people as possible) in as many areas as they can. We have to assume that the pandemic is taken into account in this decision, and if we assume that things get significantly better, I wonder if the bubble will be rebuilt in a world after the COVID. But for now, the dream of a fully immersive experience from the airport to the hotel and parks and back in 2022 is dying, and Disney fanatics will just have to get a taxi from the airport like the rest of us.
