Disney remains ‘smooth’ when it comes to releasing new titles, including ‘Black Widow’

In the first quarter of the first quarter of the first quarter, Disney was asked about strategy when it comes to when and how to debut new titles. Disney CEO Bob Chapek responded by saying the company remains flexible with its plans.

Chapek noted that there are three separate strategies regarding the release of Disney titles. Some will skip theaters and stream directly to Disney +, as we saw with ‘Soul’, which was released on Christmas Day. Others will be released in theaters. And others will be available to Disney + subscribers via Premier Access, along with theater broadcasts like we saw with “Mulan.”

“Raya and the Last Dragon” is the next movie available with Premier Access. The film starts on March 5, 2021 and costs $ 29.99 above the usual cost of a Disney + subscription.

As for Black Widow, Chapek again used the work ‘smoothly’, confirming that Disney is still planning on a theatrical release on May 7, but he will closely monitor theater reopening and behavior of moviegoers to decide whether to revisit the plan .

It’s likely that Disney will wait to see how ‘Raya’ performs with Premier Access before making a final decision on ‘Black Widow’.

While Disney hopes that theatrical releases will be a possibility later this year, there will be no shortage of content going directly to Disney +.

“We’ll add something new to the service every week,” Disney chief financial officer Christine McCarthy said during the call.
