Disney Gives Big Sony Agreement to Bring Spider-Man and Other Movies to Disney Plus and Hulu

Disney and Sony Pictures have signed a multi-year ‘content license agreement’ that will bring new Sony theater releases, starting with its 2022 films, to Disney platforms. The deal also gives Disney the right to many of Sony’s older films, including Spider man titles – which means that movies with the web pendulum, which is not particularly present in the Disney Plus collection of Marvel movies, may eventually turn to streaming service.

Sony’s theater broadcasts from 2022 to 2026 are included in the agreement, and Disney will have access to them after their ‘Pay 1 TV window’. From 2022, the window, which follows the scene and home video series of a movie, will be owned by Netflix thanks to an agreement announced earlier this month. (This means that new Sony movies will first appear in theaters, then paid rent and purchases, then Netflix, and then finally go to Disney platforms, possibly Disney Plus as well.)

Although Disney and Sony’s agreement means that Disney will have no new Spider man directly after their theatrical series, the company will be able to include it in its stream catalog in the long run – something that Disney is likely to appreciate more.

By giving people access to another set of movies in its ever-growing collection of Marvel properties, people can give more reason to sign up for Disney Plus. The company continues to link the many Marvel movies and shows so you always want to see the next new MCU thing, and it continues to invest heavily in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with big names for future series to give you even more reasons to keep your subscription.

That said, if Spider man movies do make their way to Disney Plus, which will not complete Disney’s infinite glove of movies: 2008’s The Incredible Hulk (the one with Edward Norton as the Hulk in the lead role) would still not be available on the service. Unless Disney enters into some sort of agreement with Universal, it is.

Other Sony Pictures features, such as Jumanji and Hotel Transylvania, was also included in the agreement according to the press release. According to the release, Disney’s Hulu will also have access to a “significant number of library titles”.
