Diddy appeals to General Motors … and says the company should open its wallet to black businesses, claiming that GM’s promise to pay out big bucks has been missed.
Diddy wrote down a scathing letter on Thursday, beginning with, “The same feet that these companies use to stand in solidarity with us are the same feet that we stand on our necks.” Diddy says his REVOLT network was an example of black-owned media promising GM to support through advertising, but he does not feel the company has done enough.
In his letter, Diddy claims that GM spent $ 3 billion on advertising in 2019, and according to his estimate, only $ 10 million of that was invested in black-owned media.
What he thinks should happen, Diddy says: “If the black community represents 15% of your revenue, black-owned media should receive at least 15% of advertising spending.”
He ends the letter with a threat, saying he and the black community are willing to ‘arm our dollars’, or take their money somewhere else if GM and other companies do not act.
