During an appearance on ‘Fox News Sunday’, Wallace Mayorkas asked why reporters did not gain access to CBP facilities, especially during his recent trip to the border with a congressional delegation.

Mayorkas responded by mentioning concerns about COVID-19, adding that the administration was ‘providing footage’ of CBP facilities for news organizations.

Wallace said the more than a year-long pandemic was an ‘excuse’ not to let reporters in, and said there had to be a safe way to give reporters and camera staff access.

“We are working to provide access so individuals can see what the conditions are like within a border patrol,” Mayorkas told Wallace.

“Surely reporters can see health and human services shelters where children are housed for longer periods of time,” he added.

During an interview on “Meet The Press” on Sunday, Mayorkas faced similar questions and unequivocally falsely claimed that the border patrol’s agents were under a gag order.

“Let’s be clear here. We’re in the middle of a pandemic. Because of the president’s extraordinary leadership, we’re getting out of there faster than ever before. But we’re still in the middle of the pandemic,” he told NBC. said.

“Border patrol agents are focused on operations, on border security, on the needs of vulnerable children. We are not now focused on driving together,” Mayorkas added.

The request is that the press be allowed to see conditions in the facilities in which migrant children are housed, amid a resurgence of underage minor children arriving at the border between America and Mexico.

CBS News reported on Saturday that the number of minors being housed in the U.S. after arriving at the border exceeded 15,000, including about 5,000 in a temporary tent facility operated by CBP along the border.
