DHEC provides supplementary information on vaccination schemes for 70-year-olds and older

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
12 January 2021

COLUMBIA, SC – Consult below to provide more information before tomorrow when 70 year olds and older can start making appointments for receiving COVID-19.

  • From Wednesday 13 January, 70-year-olds and older can start appointments to receive COVID-19 vaccinations at places that currently accept the appointment of vaccines.
  • DHEC’s online map at scdhec.gov/vaxlocator will be live on Wednesday 13 January. This online map shows the sites currently accepting COVID-19 vaccine acceptance, and the map provides the contact information for scheduling appointments at those sites. The card itself is not a way to plan an appointment.
  • From 13 January, individuals can also call DHEC’s Care Line at 1-855-472-3432 for help finding contact information for making an appointment. The Care Line cannot schedule an appointment, but can help provide the phone numbers of places that offer your vaccination.
  • Appointments need to be scheduled; boarding may not be able to receive vaccine.
  • You will be asked to provide a driving license or other proof of identity during your appointment that confirms your age to receive vaccine.
  • South Carolina accommodation is not a requirement to receive a vaccine.
  • The phone line for the appointment for each place can work different hours of the day. It is not determined by DHEC.
  • South Carolina, like all states, currently has a limited amount of COVID-19 vaccine. Some places where vaccine is offered may not be available for a few weeks, depending on their vaccine supply. Facilities receive doses of vaccine from the federal government every week.
  • Individuals are encouraged to schedule their second shot as soon as possible. It is important that individuals receive both doses of the same vaccine to ensure that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
