Devils announce changes to Hockey Operations Staff

The New Jersey Devils today announced changes to their Hockey Operations Department and Scouting Staff, which is a restructuring of titles to properly align with the individual’s roles and responsibilities. The announcement was made by Devils’ executive vice president / general manager Tom Fitzgerald.

Scott Clemmensen has been appointed director of the club, Goaltending Development. Clemmensen will now oversee goal development, along with executive vice president / adviser, hockey operations, Martin Brodeur. Clemmensen, along with Binghamton goalkeeping coach Brian Eklund and New Jersey coach Dave Rogalski, will monitor the organization’s current and potential future goalkeepers. In addition, he will work with our current draft prospects and prospects, while working with our professional and amateur research staff to identify talent. Clemmensen has appeared in 191 NHL games with New Jersey, Toronto and Florida, with a score of 73-59-24 with seven exclusions and a 2.79 goal average. His Devils total played 68 games, with a record of 32-19-6, four exclusions and a 2.60 GAA. After ending his career in 2015, Clemmensen took on a development role at the organization and served as development coach.

Kate Madigan has been named Executive Director of Hockey Management / Operations. Madigan previously served as assistant, player information / video from 2017-19 before becoming director of Pro Scouting Operations last season. Kate takes on a newly created role responsible for managing hockey industry projects for the general manager, which includes reports on players, free agencies, trade, analysis, budgeting and the coordination of staff for hockey operations. Previously, Madigan oversaw the scheduling and reporting for the probationary staff, while working with the coaches, management and video staff throughout the year. Recently, she orchestrated the logistics regarding the NHL concept in 2020 and the Devils Draft Command Center in the Prudential Center, including communications with buildings, information technology, medical staff, scouts, management, media relations, and the NHL.

Jim Mill previously worked as an amateur and pro scout with New Jersey from 2015 to 2019, before becoming head of College Scouting last season. Mill will now oversee the Devils probationary staff, including Al Coates, Peter Horachek, Claude Noel, Andre Savard, Brian Strait and Nick Vitucci. He will be responsible for all staff reporting, scheduling and assignments while compiling information for Fitzgerald and Assistant General Manager Dan MacKinnon. Prior to New Jersey, Mill was the assistant general manager at the Minnesota Game from 2009 to 15. He also served in the hockey management of the American Hockey League, including as executive vice president of hockey operations prior to his time with the Wild.
