Developing games for two console generations at the same time ‘sucks’, says Control developer

According to SolutionThomas Puha, communications director, developing games across two different console generations at once is not very fun.

In a new interview with IGN, the communications developer of the Control developer at this stage outlined some issues with game development – when consumers and developers are both caught in the intersection between two console cycles.

“If you’re at this point between generations, it’s a struggle,” Puha told the website. ‘You have to support the previous generation, make it sing, and everything you bring to the next generation is still limited by the choices you made years ago for the previous generation. It’s not a very realistic thing, that this old game is just going to remake everything and then bring it to the next generation.

“It’s just not like that. This is not a reality for us, because you are literally taking away resources that build future games and improve the engine for the future. ”

Remedy is of course known for releasing Control recently, and thanks to some development hurdles, the studio has finally slowed down the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Control, as well as a cloud version of the Lynchian adventure game announced for Switch Same Time to .

Puha’s insight suggests that this turmoil over generations by developers is the reason that titles of new generations do not exactly look like many people still expected; a lot of resources are still tied up in the development of different generations.

‘The games that come out, the things we’re working on, the visual bar, you’re going to be blown away. And you just have to look at previous generations. You’re watching something like Modern Warfare. I can not understand how that game looks so good on Xbox One and PS4. And you are going to have the same for this current generation. We are going to see so much improvement. ”

We hope Remedy’s upcoming game, Vanguard, will live up to these high standards. And if we do not see the promised upgrades in those tweets, we might see the results of what’s going on behind closed doors in one of the other two Remedy games in the works with Epic Games as publisher.
