Detroit Lions sells Jeff Okudah jersey with new number

If you’re a big fan of Jeff Okudah, did you know that this day would dawn. The Detroit Lions’ second fullback has made it pretty obvious that he wants to undergo a jersey number change from his rookie season, in which he indicated the number 30. Well, it looks like it’s gonna happen soon.

As Jeff Risdon of Lions Wire first noticed, the Detroit Lions seem to be selling a Jeff Okudah jersey with the number 23 on it.

Although the number change has not yet been confirmed by the team (his number remains 30 on the Lions official website), there are many reasons to believe it will be Okudah’s new number. First, team president Rod Wood said earlier this week that Okudah had been working at the Lions plant all season, indicating that he was in constant contact with the team.

“He joins regularly and I think he feels energetic about the new coaching staff as well as a number of other players,” Wood said.

Furthermore, we know that Okudah released Darius Slay before he was drafted and that the two have at least a friendly relationship. So perhaps it is no coincidence that Okudah and Slay both started with the number 30 before moving on to the number 23.

But if you have an itchy trigger this Easter Sunday, you need to give a warning before buying your next Lions jersey for the next five years. The Chiefs of Kansas City a rule change proposed this year, corner rugby – which currently can only carry numbers between 20 and 49 – would offer the opportunity to carry numbers between 1-19. Okudah wore number 1 in college and high school. Also, do not forget that the Lions can already make a uniform change next year.
