Detroit extends COVID vaccination to eligible workers living or working in the city

The city of Detroit is increasing the eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine for anyone living or working in the city and must report to work.

Previously, there were only certain categories of workers who reported to a workplace, such as teachers, postal workers, food handlers and manufacturers. Now the qualification has been extended to all employees on site, provided they live or work in the city, such as bank branch staff and other officers.

Mayor Mike Duggan said any major employer that can pre-set up at least 100 employees can ask the Detroit Department of Health to do vaccinations on the premises, instead of having to travel to TCF. Employers who can meet large groups of more than 100 employees in the course of a day can call the Detroit Means Business Call Center at (844) 333-8249 to arrange a visit to the Department of Health.

All other eligible workers on site must plan their appointment by calling the city’s central vaccination scheme number at 313-230-0505.

The suitability is also being extended to include residents of Detroit, over the age of 16, with an intellectual or developmental disability or underlying medical condition, as set forth in previous extensions. The extension also includes these persons’ carers and / or guardians.

Plan details

Vaccinations are given by appointment only. Workers and residents will not be vaccinated without first making an appointment. Individuals should call 313-230-0505 to schedule.

For greater efficiency and convenience, the city recommends that, if possible, suitable members of the same family or neighbors should schedule together and arrive in the same vehicle. Group essential workers will need to provide the name of their employer and their most recent paycheck to ensure they are eligible.

Second vaccination required

When planning their appointment, individuals who receive Pfizer or Moderna are received TWO appointment dates, one for the first dose and another for the required second dose. Call center staff will contact each scheduled person before the second appointment to remind them. Individuals will also be given specific instructions on when and where to arrive at the TCF Center, where they must complete a basic consent form.

After receiving their vaccination, individuals should wait about 15 minutes to make sure they are not experiencing any side effects. Medical staff will help you to experience any side effects. Appointments should last about one hour as soon as the person arrives for their appointment.

$ 2 rides available

The City continues to plan vaccination appointments at TCF Center, offering rides to TCF for only $ 2 to Detroiters in need of transportation. Trips must be scheduled at least 24 hours before the appointment. If a wheelchair accessible vehicle is required, one is provided. Eligible Detroiters can book an appointment by calling 313-230-0505.
