Detienen a cinco migrantes cubanos y tres ‘coyotes’ en Choluteca

Five migrants coming from Cuba were detained in the Choluteca Department, in the Honduras department, as well as in the traffic jams of persons accompanying the company, the Honduran Police said.

The detention, following a communication from the Honduran Police, is produced in the municipality of Namasigüe, Choluteca, fronterizo con Nicaragua, when immigrants travel through two vehicles carried by road users, known as “coyotes“.

Detainees from 38 to 41 years of age have been sentenced to death by a court of law and will be prosecuted for the illegal trafficking of persons and domestic soborn“, añadió.

The men were captured by agents of the Transnational Criminal Investigation Unit (UTIC) of the Police Directorate of Investigations (DPI) and the Frontier Police, and Namasigüe.

The police signal that Honduras are transferring to immigrants from Choluteca, in the Honduran border, crossing the border with Guatemala to follow the United States route.

“Individuals are observing that detainees are being detained, offering 20,000 lempiras (826 dollars) to employees in exchange for those who are being released” Honduran Police.

The Cubans are permanently detained at an office of the National Institute of Migration in Choluteca, where the authorities decide whether to take a permit to cross the national territory or regress to their country of origin.

In recent decades, Central American countries have been converted into a transit point for migrants, especially Cubans and Africans, who have traveled Central American countries to travel to the United States, where authorities have enforced security in Mexico.

Honduras signed in September 2019 an agreement with the United States that seeks to address the irregular migration of Central American countries.

Following the agreement reached in May by the Department of National Security (DHS, in Engels), the governors of Honduras and the United States agree on the sending to the Central American countries of asylum seekers to state authorities.

The document summarizes similar agreements on cooperation in asylum-related matter with Guatemala, July 26, 2019, and El Salvador, September 20 of this year, respectively.
