Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, the next expansion of the game, according to a new will not make the 2021 release window Destiny 2 update from assistant games director Joe Blackburn. The Witch Queen rather start early in 2022 to maintain Bungie’s standards and the health of the team through the COVID-19 pandemic.
‘Last summer we had our ambition for the next era in Destiny 2 by announcing the full arc, start with Out of the light, followed by The The Witch Queen and Light fall, ”Said Blackburn. ‘When we started production scale The The Witch Queen last year we made the difficult but important decision to move its release to early 2022; we also realized that we then had to add an extra unannounced chapter Light fall to complete our first saga of Destiny. ”
This statement from Blackburn is quite loaded. It not only removes The Witch Queen from 2021 it also announces a fourth expansion past Light fall (probably now posted for 2024), and implies a second Destiny 2 saga somewhere after that.
Blackburn calls it further The Witch Queen will be no different than any extension the studio has ever made, and will compile a story that will stretch through the rest of the “Light and Darkness saga” and connect pieces from the original interconnected Destiny.
Between now and The Witch Queen, Blackburn and the team plan to cover other aspects of Destiny 2 by supporting PvP, adding new content, transmog, crossplay, and more.
