Bungie announced today that he is getting rid of Destiny 2s most beleaguered mechanic: sunset. From season 14, new weapons will no longer have an expiration date.

“This is a big change for Destiny and one that we did not take lightly,” assistant game director Joe Blackburn wrote in a new, new State. Destiny Post over on Bungie’s website. ‘However, we believe that there is nothing more important in it Destiny than to get our rewards right. ”

In last fall’s Beyond Light expansion, sunset gave each piece of loot in the game outside of the exotic products an infusion shell that prevented players from increasing their power after a year when it was first added to the game. This resulted in every item that players worked hard to grind for an expiration date. the equipment can still be used in non-force-oriented activities such as Crucible and patrols, but in raids and other endgame content it will no longer be viable. The purpose of sunset was to help better balance and focus Destiny 2‘s outdoor pool, but players are understandably frustrated to see how their favorite guns are obsolete. Less than a year after the mechanic was first announced, Bungie’s is already in decline.

“We have taken the decision that any weapon or armor that can currently be applied to maximum power will still be able to reach maximum power,” Blackburn wrote. ‘From season 14 we will not cover the infusion on weapons or armor that has not reached the hood since the beginning of season. That means your curator, your Falling Guillotine and all the high armor you earned this year to tackle the raid in The Witch Queen. ”

The downside of this is that it sounds as if Bungie will tighten the use of certain weapons that are considered overwhelming. Felwinter’s Lie, a legendary rifle earned early last year as part of a boring dash line, is everywhere in PVP modes. It was previously set at sunset after the current season. Now Bungie will have to find another way to handle it.

Blackburn has also revealed some other changes. The power progression in Destiny 2 was also a tedious torment of late, and sure enough, it is being revamped as well. “To combat this, we will be experimenting with a new Power level cap,” Blackburn wrote. ‘From season 14 we increase the Power cap by 10 for each season that is not extended. This means that if you reach the maximum power in season 13, when you roll around next season, you will be directly in the 10-point Pinnacle band of the Power pursuit. Hallelujah.

There is also other good news:

  • PVP gets three major updates: a non-emote mode to peek, Stasis and other subclasses being rebalanced, and new benefits to sharpen the meta. These changes will come in season 15.
  • Bungie is cheating by doubling its security team.
  • Trials of Osiris Rewards and Matches will be reviewed to make them less uncomfortable and makes it easier for solo players to participate.
  • Destiny 1’s Vault of Glass raid returns in season 14 and gets into trouble with Master and Grandmaster by the end of the year.
  • Transmog is definitely coming in season 14 (yay), but will be powered by bounties and with its own grind.
  • Ikora Rey will finally return next season.
  • Crossword is implemented in season 15.

Although I am disappointed to see the expansion of The Witch Queen disappear after next year, I feel that these major improvements and new features are starting to feel optimistic throughout the rest of the year. Destiny 2‘s future. Then again this great State of Destiny-style posts do this regularly. We’ll see how the changes should actually eliminate once they are in play.
