Cary, NC COVID-19-related deaths and positive cases are falling in nursing homes across the country as more residents and staff are vaccinated. However, some emergency services are still dealing with outbreaks.
There are currently three active COVID-19 cases at Woodland Terrace, an assisted living facility in Cary.
“You’re always worried about it,” said Kathleen Brewer, whose husband lives in a nursing home in Rocky Mount.
Residents and staff members within nursing homes were vaccinated as part of Group 1 in the North Carolina COVID-19 vaccination. But Brewer said it is of concern to her to break out at other facilities, even with the COVID-19 vaccines.
“Wash your hands and wear a mask,” she said. “I think it’s crucial. They’ll keep it going for a while. ‘
“To date, we have held two vaccine clinics for our residents and staff, the third of which is planned for March 16, with more than 90% of our residents fully vaccinated,” a Woodland Terrace spokesman said in a statement. .
Brewer said her husband received his first dose, and she said she hopes it stays safe at his facility.
“You just risk chances with the vaccine. I hope they don’t get it there,” she added.
Last Thursday, state health officials said facilities could resume indoor visits without recent outbreaks. Not everyone inside is vaccinated, which is why visitors are encouraged to follow safety protocols in the high-risk environment.
A Woodland Terrace spokesman is taking extra precautions to limit exposure to residents and staff and continues to test residents and staff regularly.
