Deshaun Watson allegedly has teams in mind when it comes to where he might want to trade and two AFC East organizations are at the top of the list.
The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins are at No. 1 and No. 2 on Watson’s trade list, the Miami Herald reported Saturday. The Jets are at the top of the list due to the recent appointment of Robert Saleh’s team as their next head coach, reports the Herald.
While the Houston Texans have not made it to the playoffs this season, they have made it twice since Watson became the team’s starting quarterback. Watson entered the league before the start of the 2017 season. Neither the Jets nor the Dolphins made it to the playoffs at that time. Both teams have won the play-offs only once since the 2010 season.

It is unclear exactly what it will take for any team to trade for Watson. Predictably, both teams will have to pledge their future and possibly miss the first rookie full-back or wide receiver. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Devonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle and Ja’Marr Chase are all going to be in the same pool of players.

Watson’s unhappiness with Houston has been carefully documented since the end of the 2020 season.

Another issue that came up was Watson’s input on the next Texans coach. Watson reportedly hoped Houston would interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for the coaching job, but the team did not and will have to wait until next week to do so. Patrick Mahomes told Watson that Bieniemy was the one who helped change his career to what it is now, a source told Sports Illustrated.
Watson’s growing frustrations were documented last year after DeAndre Hopkins traded to the Arizona Cardinals. Watson offered his input on potential general manager candidates, but the Texans did not consider their franchise quarterback during the process, ESPN reported. The Texans apparently did not tell Watson that they had appointed Nick Caserio as the next GM of the team.
The quarterback quietly met with his teammates over the request for a trade, Pro Football Talk reported.
Richard Sherman, cornerback of the San Francisco 49ers, even said that Watson should try to force the Jets.
“If I were Deshaun, I would get out of there as quickly as possible. I would go to New York … The Jets,” Sherman said in a recent episode of “The Cris Collinsworth Podcast.”
