Well, shit. The Bears season’s dream of undoing one of their biggest draft mistakes ever seems to end before it really begins.
Deshaun Watson may already be out the door in Houston, but he wants his plane ticket to read “Miami”, not “Chicago” when the last handshakes are done:
There is a growing feeling among people in and around the Texans organization that Deshaun Watson played his last turn for the team. It’s early in the off-season, there’s still a lot of time left, but Watson’s feelings can and should not be underestimated.

League sources believe that #Texans QB Deshaun Watson has his last spin for the #Texans and the # Dolphins is according to his preferred destination @AdamSchefter and @mortreport pic.twitter.com/9TQS9mWrVe

There is no shortage of reporting on Watson’s unhappiness about the way things have gone in Houston over the past few years, so there is no real surprise here about his (1) desire or (2) ability to get out of Houston. . This is indeed what we were counting on, as the Bears prioritize the same quarterback position the same old front office again this quarter. The bigger (but worse for Chicago) news is that Watson wants to go to the Dolphins – a team that can surely put an enticing offer on the table, especially if they include Tua Tagovailoa plus a few first-round picks (including possibly a choose this year).
(And it’s not just Miami)
This is what the Bears would face. Maybe the number 2 overall choice. Maybe Tua. It’s going to cost a lot to get Watson. https://t.co/N70xp2LyQo

The Bears, you will remember, pick 20th.
No, trading for Deshaun Watson would not relieve the Bears of their sins and would certainly cost a lot to be done. But this team is HUNGRY for a franchise quarter. And to at least trade for an established first-age talent like Watson would not require too much buying or believing in Pace / Nagy. We know he’s a star. And we know the bears need one. We are not past the point of return, but if Houston goes on to trade with Watson, it looks like Miami will perform better with them than Chicago.
