One of Robert Saleh’s former defense stars is pleading for Deshaun Watson to find his way to the Jets.
‘If I were Deshaun, I would get out of there as quickly as possible. I’m going to New York. … The Jets, “49ers cornerback Richard Sherman said on” The Cris Collinsworth Podcast, “which Sherman presents together.
“It would be the most beautiful. Decent offensive line. They will have to find some threats, they will have to find offensive weapons, but I think there will be a lot more people excited to be there. Watson, 25, earned his third straight Pro Bowl nod in 2020 after donating an NFL-best 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven distinctions, along with 444 yards rushing and three rushing scores. He has played in all but one game over the past three seasons, despite being sacked 155 times.
And yet the Texans took a big step back and passed 4-12 this season. After a wrong trade last season that sent DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals, Bill O’Brien was fired as coach and general manager after a 0-4 start.
Watson’s frustration ‘was on a 2 and then I took it to 10′, he tweeted last week. It was almost word for word that an ESPN report confirmed. It was his rage between the Hopkins trade and now. He wanted to provide input on the Texans’ search for a general manager and head coach.
But the team dragged their feet in setting up an interview with Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, about whom Watson heard good things from Patrick Mahomes. Then the team hired Patriots Nick Caserio as its general manager instead of Korn Ferry’s recommended finalists, Omar Khan of the Steelers and ESPN’s Louis Riddick, a move that generally qualified Jack Easterby’s fingerprints.
‘They say [Watson is] not answering calls or texts – I would not either, ”Sherman said. “He did everything. He got you a pack of punches and played effectively. ‘
Watson gave Jets fans hope by posting an Instagram message containing The Post’s “Watever It Takes” page, arguing that the Jets will be chasing the quarterback.
Sherman has been going on about Saleh since the Jets hired him, and he seems to believe that a marriage to Saleh-Watson would bring the Jets into dispute again.
“Good pick up!” Sherman had earlier told Saleh’s The MMQB. “He’s going to turn the whole culture around!”
