The sculptor and orvebre polese venezolano Harry Abend failed this Monday. His work, in which he uses bronze, wood, cement and other materials, is exhibited in Caracas, Valencia, Brazil, London and New York.
Born in Yaroslau, Poland in 1937, he returned to Venezuela 11 years ago. He began his work as an artist starting in 1958, being a student of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Central University of Venezuela.
Initiated its exhibit activity in 1961 y, in 1963, obtained the National Prize for Culture with the work Forma. A year later work in Caracas together with English sculptor Kenneth Armitage and Venezuelan young artists. Luego, in 1976, moved to London to continue rolling its work in metal and metal and exhibit in galleries such as the Roundhouse Gallery and the Hayward Gallery. Residirá en la capital británica hasta 1982.
In the last few years, Harry Abend continued to work and exhibit. In 2019, as part of the exhibition Harry Abend: lo inesperado, from the Sala Mendoza, launched a book that recovers its work of 344 pages and that has 12 years to go. Account with the participation of the artist, the architect Oscar Díquez, the curator and critic of art Víctor Guédez -which followed his work- and the designer Ira León.
