TALLAHASSEE – Governor Ron DeSantis is not impressed with President-elect Joe Biden’s plan to call in the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help vaccinate the country.
DeSantis said at a news conference in Cape Coral on Tuesday that Biden’s plan to use the federal disaster agency and the National Guard to build COVID-19 vaccine clinics across the country would be a “big mistake”.
‘I’ve seen some of these things that Biden puts out, that he’s going to create these FEMA camps. “I can tell you that it is not necessary in Florida,” he said. ‘All we need is more vaccine. Just get more vaccine for us. ‘
“Trying to reinvent the wheel at this point, I think it would be a big mistake,” DeSantis added. “The more bureaucracy involved, the worse it will be.”
The remarks were the first Florida governor on the incoming government’s vaccination plans. Contrary to President Donald Trump’s approach to getting states to distribute the vaccines, which was slower than expected to get shots in the arms, Biden said last week he would speed up the process by calling in federal aid.
“Our plan is going to focus on getting shots in the arms, among other things, by starting a fundamentally new approach, and establishing thousands of federal vaccination centers of federal management or federal support of various sizes, located in places like high schools and high schools. NFL Stadiums, “he said. Praying according to an interview with WFXE-FM in Columbus, Ga., According to The New York Times.
DeSantis, an ally of Trump, has also come under heavy criticism over the slow and confusing vaccination of the state. But he rejected Biden’s idea.
“Just think about it: if you come in and tell FEMA to set up some kind of camp, how long will it take?” DeSantis said. “And are you going to divert vaccines from my efforts here?”
“I’m more concerned that they’re trying to control its implementation, I think it’s going to be very problematic,” DeSantis added. “They need to use their ability and authority to get more vaccine for humans.”
DeSantis was originally asked if he had spoken to the Biden administration about the vaccine plan. DeSantis did not say.
“I did not read anything about it,” he said.
