DeSantis condemns critical racial theory and says it will not be taught in Florida classrooms

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis this week condemned critical racial theory and said there was ‘no room for it’ in Florida classrooms.

DeSantis this week proposed spending $ 106 million to support civilian education in the state after getting the boost in funding the coronavirus stimulus package signed by President Biden last week.

Based on the governor’s proposal, teachers who qualify for civilian education would receive a $ 3,000 bonus. About $ 16.5 million would be spent on training teachers and principals in civic education. The training comes from civic “coaches”, personal seminars and virtual learning.

About $ 6.5 million would be used to develop partnerships between schools and governments in an effort to get students interested in public service, and another $ 17 million would be spent on developing civic curricula – excluding critical racial theory.

TRUMP ENDS CRITICAL RACE THEORY TRAINING FOR FEDERAL EMPLOYEES, CALLS THAT ‘DISEASE’

“The Florida civic curriculum contains groundbreaking concepts with the best materials and excludes unsanctioned stories such as critical race theory and other unfounded theories,” DeSantis said when announcing his proposal this week.

“Let me be clear: there is no room in our classrooms for things like critical racial theory,” he continued. “Teaching children to hate their country and to hate each other is not worth a single penny of the taxpayer’s money.”

According to DeSantis, Florida will instead “invest in a real, thorough, correct curriculum and we will be a leader in developing and implementing a world-class civic education.”

Critical race theory examines the way in which race and racism influence politics, culture, and law. According to Purdue University, the Critical Race Theory Scholarship shows how racism is still persuasive and why it denies individuals their constitutional rights.

Last September, former President Trump stopped training “critical race theory” in federal agencies and described it as “anti-American propaganda.”

Proponents of the training, however, say it could help the government eliminate prejudice in areas such as awarding federal contracts.

Biden, when he took office, signed an executive order reversing a Trump-era policy that limited the ability of federal agencies, contractors and beneficiaries to implement diversity and inclusion training.
