Derrick Henry surpasses 2,000 running yards as Tennessee Titans secure AFC South Championship

Few full-backs have been as dominant over the past two seasons as Derrick Henry. Henry provided more evidence on Sunday as he passed 2,000 ports.

During the fourth quarter, on a long drive, Henry landed at 227 ports – surpassing the milestone – while the Titans fought the Houston Texans. Henry finished with 250 yards and two hits on 34 was the Titans’ 41-38 victory. The win earned Tennessee the AFC South Division title.

Henry is the eighth player in the 2,000-run club and joins OJ Simpson, Eric Dickerson, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis, Jamal Lewis, Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson. The Titans are the only NFL franchise to have two players rushing 2,000 yards in a season.

Peterson was the last to do so when he picked up 2,097 in 2012.

“He definitely shows he’s the next best thing. If you’re Derrick Henry, teams come in and they’s set on stopping you. That makes it even more impressive,” Peterson said last month.

Henry is the first player to place more than 200 runs and two touchdowns in a game three times in a season. The 6-foot-3, 247-pound return joined Davis as the only players to have at least 1,900 running yards and 15 running touchdowns in a season. Henry finished as the Triple Crown winner in chase categories, knocking down leaders in running backs, (17) and leading the way.

Henry had more than 200 runs for the third consecutive game against the Texans, making him the only player in NFL history. He also joined Tiki Barber (New York Giants 2005, 2006) as the only NFL player to finish with 200 rushing games in rugby season finals.
