It just hurts.
You should not try everything you see on the internet, and dermatologists are appealing to TikTok users not to strip their faces with hot wax after the dangerous trick began to trend online.
The Kapsalon Freedom hair salon in Gemert, the Netherlands, has been shooting stars for its face with hot wash treatment on the video sharing platform for the past few months, the BBC reported this week. During the service of the salon, wax is applied over the face, mouth, neck and sometimes of a customer’s ears and nose and hardens before being removed. Cotton swabs are apparently used to create air bubbles during the procedure, with strips of paper applied to protect eyebrows and lashes.

Some of Kapsalon Freedom’s more dramatic clips have been viewed millions of times online, with one video being nearly 20 million alone.
While the action certainly sticks out improper hair, experts warn against it for safety.
“Waxing is a traumatic process for the skin, especially sensitive areas such as those that occur around the eyes,” said Dr. Anjali Mahto, a dermatologist in London, told the Evening Standard. “It is not recommended to wash in your nose or ears as it can damage the skin deep in these cavities and can cause ingrown hairs and inflammation known as pseudofolliculitis barbae.”

Mahto added that especially the removal of hair in the nose removes a natural protective layer against bacteria and germs.
The British Skin Foundation also raised red flags after the Dutch barbershop posted videos of young boys receiving treatment, reports the BBC.
“I personally would not recommend treating children,” said the dermatologist, Dr. Emma Wedgeworth, also from London, said at the start of the rage.

Furthermore, she stressed that TikTok should consider limiting such content with warnings or advice.
“There is a lot of misinformation and potentially harmful DIY beauty practices on TikTok and other social media channels,” Wedgeworth argued. “And it would be good to see these stricter regulations.”
At the moment, a number of dangerous insanities have shaken the platform as it has become more popular, including the “skull breaker challenge”, the “Benadryl challenge” and another in which participants grinded their teeth with nail files. Recently, a woman was chosen online for accidentally styling her hair with Gorilla Glue, a trick that has been criticized by some as a shameless advertising stunt.
