Denzel Ward is one of Cleveland’s two best defensive players, and he will be back this week for the team’s division round with the Chiefs.

But Ward has been out since Dec. 31 when he was placed on the reserve / COVID-19 list. He said Wednesday that he was experiencing some major symptoms after testing positive for the virus.

“I was pretty sick,” Ward said via Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. ‘Just flu-like symptoms, whole body pain and chills and stuff like that. I was nicely laid out in my house. ”

Ward noted that he was surprised that he tested positive because he often wears a mask.

“It was a little rough. I lost my sense of smell and taste, so it was really different, ”said Ward. ‘All the food tasted just the same. I actually only chose food for its texture because I could not really taste it. It was not great. I’m glad I got it right and hope everyone still stays safe and wears a mask and tries to beat it. ‘

In his third season from the state of Ohio, Ward had two interceptions, defending 18 passes and one forced fumble in 12 games this season.
