The digital rights management company Denuvo has long been controversial in the computer market, where it also provides anti-cheat services to interested developers. Denuvo has just announced that the Anti-Cheat technologies have been added to the PlayStation 5’s “Tools and Middleware program”. This means that anyone who releases a game on the PS5 can makeuse the Denuvo Anti-Cheat to try to stop prospective fraudsters in their games.
Interestingly, Denuvo said as part of the announcement that a number of PS5 launch games have already made use of its Anti-Cheat, although it did not specify.
Correction, 03/10/21, 22:02 ET –Denuvo’s announcement specifies anti-cheat only, not DRM, as a previous version of this article implied. We have updated the article and the heading accordingly, and regret the error.
