The report describes the social media activity of members on public forums immediately before the November election and directly after the January 6 riot. The report has been online for a week.
In a preface to the report, Lofgren – the chair of the Home Administration Committee – writes that she asked her staff to pull up the relevant social media posts and compile them in an effort to gather facts.
“Any appropriate disciplinary action is not just a matter of the Constitution and the law, but also of fact,” the California Democrat wrote. “Many of former President Trump’s false statements have been made in many public institutions. Did members make similar public statements in the weeks and months before the January 6 attack? Judgments readily available in the public arena may form part of any consideration of Congress’ constitutional privileges and responsibilities. ‘
Lofgren continued: “Consequently, I asked my staff to take a quick look at public social media posts of members who voted to block the 2020 presidential election.”
“Like former President Trump, every elected member of Congress who aided and supported the uprising or incited the attack seriously threatened our democratic government. They would have betrayed their oath of office and would be involved in the same constitutional provision contained in the article of the indictment is quoted., ‘Lofgren wrote in her preface to the report. “The provision prohibits anyone who has previously taken an oath as a member of Congress from supporting the Constitution but subsequently participated in rebellion or rebellion has to serve in Congress. “
The report contains a collection of posts and tweets on social media covering dozens of pages of the rep. Paul Gosar, Arizona, stretches, where he must hold fans a few days before the ‘uprising in the Capitol’ to ‘keep the line’. In another report on social media included in the report, Gosar wrote that “rioting and treason to steal votes are appropriate.”
CNN reached out to Gosar’s office for comment.
