Delivered Pokémon GO with Fletchling Community Day?

Yesterday was Fletchling Community Day in Pokémon GO. After months of poor reception from community days that had considerable interest at best and at worst setback in the game’s online community, Niantic followed the promises to change the community days with the March Fletchling feature. This time we got a new shiny version, an interesting move and a non-Kanto Pokémon. Let’s see if it really was an improvement on this once beloved monthly event.

What worked in this Pokémon GO event

  • Fletchling: The Pokémon choice itself was fantastic. Players have expressed that they want non-Kanto Pokémon that have not yet been released in their shiny form, and Niantic has gone through exactly that. On top of being a dynamic choice that pushes the idea of what Community Day players can offer in 2021, Fletchling is an amazing Blink with its light brown body and yellow wings. What pure fun for Pokémon hunting, this selection made yesterday the best community day since Rhyhorn in February 2020.
  • Signed research: it was not a big change, but consistency was applied correctly. The reward here was worth more than the $ 1 USD price for the ticket, and if Pokémon GO it can continue, it will be worth every month.
  • Bonus: XP is again important for players at level 40+, with the GO Beyond initiative launching levels 41 to 50, so it was a big bonus to have a triple catch XP on a Pokémon which was relatively easy to tackle ‘Excellent’ cast. Personally, I was able to earn about 1.5 million XP during my game, and I consider that a big win.

What did not work in this Pokémon GO event

Overall

After months and months of faint community days, it looks like Niantic is on course to put this monthly event back to a much anticipated day for Pokémon GO players. As long as they now stay the course and continue to bring this level of fun, new content to Community Day, that is.
