Delegates in Utah were shot in the head during the shootout outside the jail

Two Salt Lake County delegates are in the hospital Saturday after being shot in the parking lot of the Salt Lake County Metro Jail, sources reported.

According to the local Fox 13 newspaper, the suspect was shot dead during the violent bullet exchange during the shooting.

It is suspected that one officer is in a critical condition after being shot in the eye, while the second office is believed to be in a stable condition after being shot in the head as well.

Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera told reporters the officers were not a ‘campus security team’ but did not give details on what it entailed.

“These types of incidents are really devastating to the department,” Rivera said. “We hope and pray that our deputies will be in order.”

“The law enforcement environment is extremely dangerous right now, and we know it.”
