Defending Masters champion Dustin Johnson leads the top golfers missing the cut

Dustin Johnson’s reign as Master Champion lasted five months.

Johnson missed the Masters cut on Friday and will only be at Augusta National to put on the green jacket for whoever stands on Sunday. The no. 1 golfer in the world finished his round with three arches and missed the cut with just two strokes.

“Obviously I wanted to be this weekend,” Johnson said. “I like this golf course. I feel like I play it very well. I just did not sit very well. It’s pretty simple.”

He was the 11th defending champion to miss the 36-hole stroke. Seve Ballesteros did it twice.

Johnson won the Masters last year when the event was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. He shot a first round 74 and a second round 75. Three times above was the cut line to get a chance to play for the green jacket.

Justin Rose led the field and finished the second round overall with 7 under par. Brian Harman, Will Zalatoris, Jordan Spieth and Marc Leishman rounded out the top scores.
