Deer Park Police use the 2017 crash to send a strong message against drunk driving

DEER PARK, Texas – Authorities in Deer Park are using a 2017 front-on crash involving a police vessel as a serious message to combat drunk driving.

In a message posted on Facebook on Sunday, Deer Park police showed a video of the accident between a wrong driver and a police vessel from December 16, 2017.

The 25-second video shows Officer Anthony Baggett using lights, his siren and a spotlight in an attempt to get the other driver’s attention before the crash in Center Street.

It could be seen that other vehicles were avoiding the wrong driver before the accident happened. The officer involved, identified as Anthony Baggett, immediately asked for the impact for help.

“Fortunately, Officer Baggett was not killed or seriously injured by the drunk driver who was driving in the wrong direction in Center Street during this attack,” Deer Park police said in the Facebook report. “There is significant property damage to our Tahoe police and the suspect’s vehicle, but unlike broken people, it can be easily repaired or replaced.”

The department used the incident to highlight the dangers of alcohol and driving.

“Please remember that during the BIG GAME today (and any other day, for that matter) you can get your own touch by calling a friend, a taxi, a travel agent, Uber, Lyft or your mother! that you do NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! “

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly noted that the accident occurred overnight on February 6th. ABC13 regrets the mistake.

Baggett sustained minor injuries during the crash while the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment and released. Investigators said the driver was later arrested and charged with DWI.
