Dean Pees: I retired to work with Arthur Smith

Longtime NFL assistant coach Dean Pees has retired after the 2019 season.

He has spent the past two years as the Titans’ defense coordinator. Prior to that, Pees held the same position at the 2012-2017 Ravens.

But Pees apparently did not keep much of his time away from the game, as he is now Arthur Smith’s defense coordinator in Atlanta.

‘I retired because I really missed it. And I think the world of Arthur Smith. I loved working with him, “Pees said on Friday via Jason Butt of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. ‘I was itching, but I did not want to go looking for a job. I came here because of the Atlanta Falcons and Arthur Smith. ”

Smith and Pees were on the Titans staff together from 2018-2019. Smith was initially the coach of Tennessee, but the two became co-coordinators in 2019 when Matt LaFleur left the OC role to become Green Bay’s head coach.

The Titans promote another coach to offensive coordinator to replace Smith, who puts Todd Downey in the position.
