DE Darren Agu connects to Notre Dame

Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee School three-star defense end Darren Agu is the latest prospect of 2022 to connect Notre Dame. This is a big win for the Fighting Irish, especially the defensive coach Mike Elston and defense coordinator Marcus Freeman.

The staff presented on April 2 and wasted no time in reaching his commitment. Some may think it was just a young man jumping on an offer he was waiting for, but that’s not exactly the case. According to what we learned, the Fighting Irish coaching staff has been raising the 6-6, 235 pounds for months. Elston targeted him early and the relationship has grown a lot since they initially had contact. Agu and the Notre Dame coaches have since done film work, position meetings, a virtual visit to Notre Dame, and he has spoken to every coach in the staff. For someone who has just officially made the offer, Agu has known everything about Notre Dame for some time.

In Agu, originally from England, Notre Dame finds a young man with a ton upside down. One source close to his recruitment said: “He will be one of the best defensive goals of this class when everything is done.” Clearly, an opinion is shared by several coaching staff as it is offered by Alabama, Penn State, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Tennessee and many others across the country. Agu has not played a lot of football yet, but he has the size, speed, raw strength and toughness you are looking for in a defensive prospect. If you look at how dominant he is on both sides of the ball while also playing a tight end, you quickly realize that he has the chance to be really good next year. Agu recently participated in the VTO camp in Georgia and took MVP honors home as he flattened all day. He also mixed a 36-inch vertical jump and back-to-back. 4.75 40-yard-dash times.

According to 247Sports, Agu is the biggest 22-defensive end at national level and prospect no. 36 of Georgia in the 2022 class. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Agu is the biggest defensive point no. 28 at the national level and a prospect of Georgia in the 2022 class.

Agu is defense line no. 3 for Notre Dame in this cycle. The warring Irish have already secured the obligations of defending four stars Tyson Ford and three-star defensive end Aiden Gobaira. The staff is not finished yet. See if they can secure another pass-rusher and as many as two defensive dives before everything is said and done.

As always, Irish Illustrated will completely lock you in with all of Notre Dame’s site efforts. The Fighting Irish are working hard to ensure a Top 5 class in this cycle.
