De Blasio calls NYC bike attack on SUV ‘absolutely unacceptable’, says there will be ‘consequences’

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday that an attack by a group of cyclists on a sports utility vehicle in broad daylight was “absolutely unacceptable” and warned that there would be consequences for the offenders.

“This is absolutely unacceptable,” he said when asked about the incident. These teens are doing something that is just wrong, period. ‘

De Blasio responded to video of the Tuesday incident in downtown Manhattan in which a group of teenagers attacked an SUV on bicycles. One teenager was arrested, and the mayor said “the other will be it.”

In a 14-second clip, several people in the group are shown jumping on the hood of the car. The teenagers apparently also damaged the vehicle in turn. One teenager saw him use his car to break the car’s hood while another jumped on the windshield, causing it to partially collapse.

In another clip posted on a separate Twitter account, another teenager is seen repeating the side of the car.

De Blasio promised on Thursday that the perpetrators would be held responsible for the attack.

“Look, we have to teach our young people better all the time, it’s everyone’s responsibility, but we also have to have consequences, so there will be consequences in this case,” he said. “I never want to see anything like this in New York City.”

Police told Fox News they received a report around 4pm that a vehicle in Fifth Avenue and East 21st Street had been damaged, but that the suspects had fled the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Max Torgovnick, told the New York Post on Wednesday that he and his 70-year-old mother had just dropped off a donation to a non-profit organization when they encountered about 50 motorcyclists.

“This is something I would never expect in New York City,” the lifelong residents said. ‘This is something you would see in the streets of a war zone. I never thought New York would get so bad. ‘
