DC Police contact GOP Rep. Boebert on plans to bring Glock to work

Boebert made no secret of her intention to bring a gun to the Capitol complex, where lawmakers are exempt from otherwise strict firearms bans, as long as it is stored in members’ offices and stored safely and unloaded. Democrats were considering a change in the rules that would prevent even members of Congress from bringing weapons to the Capitol, but the rule package introduced by the House leaders last week did not include any change in policy.

The current guidelines for guns in the Capitol are drawn up by the Capitol Police Board, which includes the gunners of the House and Senate, the architect of the Capitol and the head of the Capitol Police. Legislators have been exempt from the restrictions by the council for decades.

On Sunday, Boebert drew attention to her plans to carry a weapon when she video on social media declared her intention to carry her rifle in Congress.

“The government can NOT tell me or my constituents how we can protect our family,” she said.

Boebert, who ran a gun theme called Shooters before her congressional bid, made Second Amendment rights a focal point of her platform.

A spokesman for Boebert said Monday she “will comply with all applicable firearms laws and regulations.”
