Well, it did not take too long before Maurice Linguist, co-defense coordinator / corner coach, landed his first yard in Michigan, as Taylor Groves, the four-star safety, in 2022, who received his offer from Michigan on January 27, announced his commitment. Friday.
Groves attends East Robertson High School in Tennessee and has the same personal trainer as Junior Colson, the subordinate junior in 2021, who undoubtedly helped Michigan in this race as well.
Other schools that Groves is considering include LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
Our very own Von Lozon interviewed Groves after receiving the offer, and he said his conversation with Linguist stands out among the others.
“It was great, one of the best conversations I’ve ever had with a coach,” Groves told Maize n Brew. ‘He was really into everything he said, and I’m definitely a big fan of Michigan, right after the conversation.
“I think (Michigan)’s coaching staff can get me where I want to be for my future (the NFL),” he said. “I also want to win a national championship, and I feel I can do it there.”
At number 242 in the country and 16th in safety, schools were split on which side of the ball they recruited the 6-foot-2 and 175-pound prospect. Groves recently told 247Sports that schools like LSU, Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State are also recruiting him as a defensive back, so it looks like he has his position with the highest ceiling.
Groves is the fifth member of Michigan’s 2022 class and the first in defensive rugby. You can see his highlights in the junior year below.
